ICSI will set up a centre of excellence at Rajarhat near the metropolis for doing research on corporate governance and contemporary laws.
President of ICSI Mamta Binani said the institute had purchased 1.5 acres of land from HIDCO and construction of the building would be completed within two years time.
The centre would also conduct empirical study for government agencies and regulatory authorities.
Binani said company secretaryhip is a distance learning course and there were minimal human connect with the students.
The centre, she said, would conduct classroom CS courses with hostel facilities for students.
Referring to National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), she said NICCO was the first corporate debtor in Kolkata which had been shifted to the tribunal from BIFR.
ICSI had also obtained the license to function as agency to train insolvency professionals, she said.
