IIIT-H has launched VRGeo, an open-source collaborative technology, for mapping geospatial information in India at Garuda NKN (National Knowledge Networks) Partners Meet held at Bangalore last week.
This solution will help people easily locate utility points such as ATMs, bus-stops, post offices and government offices, the institute said here in a statement.
The institute is working on a mobile application of VRGeo which is expected to be ready in a few months.
This solution will help a variety of users like policy makers, bureaucrats and researchers. The VRGeo (spelled out as we-are-geo) has been conceived and developed by IIIT-Hyderabad’s research laboratory Lab for Spatial Informatics, the institute said here in a statement.
“The crowd-sourced model of data collection combined with the technical and scientific understanding will go on to provide an effective methodology for transformation of the collected data to valuable information as well as advance disciplinary knowledge in areas related to spatial and temporal processes,” the statement said.
