Manipal University has tied up with KEF Holdings (a Singapore-based multinational holding company that specialises in innovative offsite construction technology) to set up a research and development (R&D) centre.
A press release by the university said here that the upcoming facility will be known as MIT-KEF R&D Centre. It will be built on the premises of the Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) in Manipal with an investment of ₹10 crore with an equal contribution from both partners.
The R&D centre is meant to provide budding engineers with practical know how about offsite construction, it said.
The proposed facility will cover an area of about 28,000 sq ft. It includes several design studios, casting and testing laboratories for pre-cast joints, beams and slabs, modelling and simulation laboratories, a conference hall, and a museum.
The experience that the students gather at the R&D centre can be put to use at the KEF Infra One industrial park in Krishnagiri, as the company plans to hire talent from the university for internships as well as full time roles, the release said.
Ramdas M Pai, Chancellor of Manipal University, and Faizal E Kottikollon and Shabana Faizal, founders of KEF Holdings, laid the foundation stone for the centre in Manipal on Saturday.
