Geeta K. Vemuganti, Dean, School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been selected for the Dr Ramineni Foundation USA award Visesha Puraskaaram.

The award recognises Geeta's contributions to pathology and stem cell research. She will receive the award at Puraskaarams – 2017, an event organised to promote and propagate Indian culture and fine arts, on the eve of the 88th birthday of the late Ramineni Ayyanna Chowdary on October 12 at Vijayawada, AP.

The Foundation's primary mission is to felicitate the valiant, relentless and altruistic efforts of scholars drawn from a cross spectrum of fields in arts, science and humanities. It recognises the outstanding contribution of services towards science and development.

Geeta Vemuganti has led and developed the fledgling School of Medical Sciences at the UoH since December 2010, after a long stint as head of ocular pathology services at the renowned L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad.

A physician-pathologist by training, her contribution to cutting edge stem cell research in ocular surface regeneration has led to bench-to-bedside applications. She has published widely, authoring 160 papers in journals of international repute.
