Our Bureau The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has prepared a potential-linked credit plan of ₹12,659.04 crore for Dakshina Kannada district for 2019-20.

Presenting the plan at the district consultative committee meeting in Mangaluru, S Ramesh, Assistant General Manager (District Development) of Nabard, highlighted various enabling factors under each category of the priority sector and requested the bankers to leverage these to improve their lending portfolio.

The projections for 2019-20 on an overall basis are 6 per cent higher than the previous year’s projections of ₹11,921.85 crore, he said, adding that lending to agriculture, fisheries, food processing, MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises), education and housing sectors, continues to be priority for the district.

Potential-linked credit plan for the district has been prepared with the objective of mapping the existing potential for development through bank credit. It takes into account the long-term physical potential, availability of infrastructure support, marketing facilities, policies and programmes of Central and State governments.

He said that the potential-linked credit plan document was prepared by adopting a consultative process with various stakeholders. The document aims at providing direction to credit flow from institutional sources, in accordance with the national objectives, he added.
