The Andhra Pradesh Government on Tuesday hinted that it was keen on setting up a new capital between Krishna and Guntur districts of the new residual State.

The State Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P Narayana, who met the Sivaramakrishna Committee set up to facilitate formation of new capital, earlier today said that the State has communicated its interest in developing the new capital between Vijayawada and Guntur.

The State has decided to consider this option as Vijayawada has amongst the biggest rail junctions in the country, has river network, a thriving business, airport and four lane road network. All these are ideally suited for development of the new city at this location, he said.

The Committee was also informed that the State would require about 20,000 acres of land to create the necessary infrastructure for the new capital. The necessary land would also be in the State’s possession within three months. The State had earlier come out with stringent norms for transfer of land in this region as the speculative buying had jacked up prices.

The State Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, is expected to meet the expert panel constituted by the Centre to express the Government view on creation of new capital.

The State Government has constituted an expert panel to assist the State in development of new Capital. These include the State Minister P. Narayana, industrialists and MPs, G. Jaydev Galla, Y.S. Chowdary, G.V. Sanjay Reddy of GVK Group, Bommidala Srinivas of GMR Group, M. Prabhakar Rao of Nuziveedu Seeds, among others.
