Long distance train traffic to Mumbai from the Nashik side has been disrupted as heavy rains resulted in a boulder fall and overhead wires broke down.
The incident occurred at the Thull Ghat between Kasara and lgatpuri, 132 km from Mumbai on the up line holding up 12262 Howrah-Mumbai Duranto and 13201 Patna-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express at Igatpuri since 8:30 a.m., said a statement from Central Railway.
A special train to remove the boulder and restore the wiring of the up line has been sent.
Sunil Kumar Sood, General Manager, Central Railway, along with A.K. Mittal, Additional General Manager and Principal Chief Engineer, have rushed to supervise the restoration works.
Five trains (12140 Nagpur-Mumbai Sewagram Express, 12072 Aurangabad-Dadar Janshatabdi Express, 12118 Manmad-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express, 51154 Bhusaval-Mumbai Passenger and the 51153 Mumbai-Bhusaval Passenger) have been short-terminated at various stations between Kasara and Manmad and would be sent back from those stations.
Three trains coming to Mumbai - 11094 Varanasi-Mumbai Mahanagari Express, 12142 Patna-Mumbai Express and the 11056 Gorakhpur-Mumbai Godan Express - have been diverted via the Daund-Pune-Kalyan route.
