You can chill out in a three-billion years-old rock formations in the first-ever moon festival being organised by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation at Orvakal near Kurnool.

"Orvakal rock formation zone is one of the best kept secrets of the State. The three-day festival to be held from June 9, 2017 will offer an ideal weekend getaway for those in Hyderabad and Bangalore,’’ G Gopala Krishna, Regional Director, APTDC, told newspersons at a press conference here on Tuesday.

Timing of the festival coincides with Eruvaka Purnima, a local festival celebrated by farmers to welcome monsoon. "The idea is to revive the traditional festival which is almost extinct now by fusing it with modern festive themes,’’ he said.

A stretch of 200 acres of government land will host the event. Accommodation will be given in categories of platinum, gold and silver arenas and tickets are priced accordingly in the range of Rs 15,000 to Rs 5,000.

An air-conditioned well-furnished tented accommodation with all modern comforts will be provided to visitors. APTDC had procured 100 tents from the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat for the purpose.

Besides igneous rock formations between pools of water, the place has a restaurant, a cave museum, picnic area and a hiking path that snakes up a hill, developed by Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC).

Besides the registered 1,500 guests, the tourism department is expecting over 5,000 locals to participate in the festival. The festival will be managed by Violet Worldwide.
