The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has stepped up its bus body building capacity meeting the requirement of its both ordinary and luxury buses.

It expects that in future it will be able to meet the demand for bus-building through its own units.

Speaking to media persons after launching a new super luxury bus rolled out from the RTC Bus Body Building Unit at Miyapur, A.K.Khan Vice-Chairman and Manager Director of APSRTC, said fabricating bus bodies at the corporation’s unit would be advantageous.

RTC fabricates about 50 bus bodies per month at its Miyapur unit.

The Corporation was planning to purchase 2,000 new buses this year to meet the growing demand for bus connectivity across the State. More than 4,000 villages still lack bus connectivity in the State, he said.

The corporation is laying thrust on improving efficiency and bringing down losses. By March 2014, the Corporation expects to come out with improved performance without any losses. This year it could end up with a loss of Rs 330 crore as against a loss of Rs 585 crore a year before.

He said that the Corporation is now focusing on generating more revenue from non-transport operations and trying to cut down on expenditures.

“RTC and Metro Rail will complement each other and are likely to add to the convenience of commuters,” he said.
