Bangalore Apartments' Federation (BAF) has taken the lead to make Bengaluru sustainable.

BAF on Saturday held a day-long event by organising – BAMBOOS  (Bengaluru Apartments Making Bengaluru Operationally Outstanding & Sustainable) to showcase various initiatives to be undertaken collectively.

At the meet a city-wide rooftop solar initiative in apartments was launched. Later both Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP),  Bescom and BAF agreed to collaborate to achieve a target of at least 1,000 rooftop solar implementations in apartments over the next two years.

With solar rooftops, there are huge cost savings possible which would reduce the electricity bills significantly and by using a renewable source of energy which is free and infinite, the society is contributing to the environment.

Rooftop solar has the additional benefits of long life of over 25 years, simple and easy to maintain, makes better use of under-utilised real estate, and with no safety issues of either smoke or noise pollution, or any need for fuel procurement.

Actively involved and engaged by the BBMP Mayor Gangambike Mallikarjun and actively involved was the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd. (Bescom) Managing Director C Shikha.

At the event, other initiatives like  Waste Management, Water Management, Safety, Security and Compliance and Energy Management. Stalls were also put by various clusters of BAF on topics like Voter Registration, Apartments’ Social Responsibility, People Welfare, Waste, Water, and Safety etc.

Outlining the objectives of BAMBOOS, Srikanth Narasimhan, General Secretary of BAF, said, “BAMBOOS is a platform for apartments & Resident Welfare Assciations (RWAs) communities across Bengaluru to share best practices with each other with a view to implementing all these measures in every apartment & RWA community”.

Talking about the event, Vikram Rai, Treasurer of BAF, explained, “The event saw participation of hundreds of apartment complexes which have initiated measures to help build a better Bengaluru. Children and residents of apartment complexes talked about these practical initiatives in the stalls and during the sessions. The sessions and the discussions were only around practical initiatives implemented for people to learn from one another”.

Explaining the importance of the event, R Balasubramanian, President of BAF, said, “Apartments have been contributing a lot to the sustainability of Bengaluru by implementing pioneering initiatives in water, waste & energy management. Apartment residents have also been socially responsible by undertaking community welfare programmes in their localities, supporting the Government in safe practices & compliance and also holding voter registration campaigns to increase voting percentages!”
