Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday said the Congress had come to his party’s doorsteps for tie-ups to get power in BBMP (Brihat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) and during the by-election held for Nanjangud Assembly constituency.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of a ‘conclave of intellectuals’ here, he said Congress had begged JD(S) for its help.

His comment was in response to a reported statement by CM Siddaramaiah, where he had ruled out talks for an alliance with the JD(S) for sending a third candidate to Rajya Sabha from the State.

Kumaraswamy said Siddaramaiah’s “arrogance” will ruin him. The JD(S) will show its strength in the forthcoming Assembly elections in the State, he asserted.

On Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s visit to Mangaluru on Tuesday, he wondered if there was a leadership crisis in the BJP Karnataka unit.

He said both the BJP and the Congress are the least bothered about the State’s development. While the BJP wants to do politics over the murders of Hindus, the State Home Minister is busy releasing a list of those killed in the State, Kumaraswamy said, adding that the behaviour of these party leaders had created panic among the citizens.

To a query on the inclusion of Ashok Kheny, Bidar South MLA and Managing Director of NICE (Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise), into the Congress, he said it was the worst ever decision taken by the party.

A House committee headed by Karnataka Law Minister TB Jayachandra had recommended a probe by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate into the allegations of irregularities in the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project implemented by NICE.

Kumaraswamy asked why the State government had not implemented the recommendations of the panel.
