The CPI(M) has passed a resolution condemning "the violent attacks on the party workers and leaders, and also other democratic and secular forces, in West Bengal, under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee of the Trinamool Congress."
The resolution was passed on Thursday at the twenty-first congress of the party currently going on here. Elaborating on it at a press meet later, CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat said that "not a leaf stirs in West Bengal without the consent of the Chief Minister and we blame her for the attacks on our party workers and leaders. Not only our party workers and leaders, other democratic forces and parties have suffered at the hands of the present dispensation in West Bengal."
In response to a question whether it did not amount to demonising the Chief Minister for all the incidents taking place in the State, she replied that her party was merely stating the facts and it was in no way obsessed with Mamata Banerjee.
Call for reservation in private sector
She said the party also passed a resolution seeking reservations for the SCs/STs in the private sector and another one opposing the proposed labour reforms of the Modi Government, especially those relating to the EPF, ESI Acts.
