Even as the Election Commission (EC) maintained suspense over the election dates for Gujarat, the ruling BJP brought its star campaigner and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to the poll-bound State to counter Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi’s rallies.

In his signature style, Adityanath came down heavily on Rahul, ridiculing for the contradiction between his words and actions in the Congress scion’s own Parliamentary constituency of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. “Even after ruling Amethi for 14 years, he did not even construct a building for the Collectorate there. How can he develop Gujarat?” Adityanath asked. On Gujarat tour for two days, the UP Chief Minister participated in the BJP’s Gujarat Gaurav Yatra, which is travelling across 149 Assembly constituencies in the State.

Picking on Rahul for his foreign trips, saying, “When calamity strikes Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi flies to Italy.” Further escalating his attacks on the Congress leader, Adityanath said, “Congress’ prince is confusing the people of Gujarat. They, who don’t know about the development, are appraising you about Gujarat’s development. In 70 years since Independence, they developed themselves. The party’s name should be changed to Corruption Party.”

Tour tribal areas

Adityanath travelled through the tribal region of the South Gujarat region including places like Valsad, Navsari and Bilimora. Accompanied by other seers, Adityanath visited the Nath Ashram in Bilimora and addressed a gathering there.

The firebrand BJP leader heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development model in Gujarat and said, “Your development inspired people in our State.” A large number of people from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha migrate to Gujarat looking for employment in textiles, automobiles and other manufacturing sector. Adityanath is also likely to meet representatives of the North Indian community leaders at Surat — a textiles and diamond hub.

Earlier in the day, five Congress workers were detained at Valsad as they tried to protest against the UP CM by showing black flags.
