Girls hailing from families of tea estate workers, attending schools in and around Coonoor will henceforth benefit from incinerators to burn off used sanitary napkins. “Tea Board had earlier issued grants to us for erecting some buildings. Now, Lions Club of Nilgiris has installed incinerator and sanitary napkin supplying machines in our school. This will benefit some 1,300 students, mostly hailing from tea estates and economically challenged backgrounds,” Sister Amalorpavamary, Headmistress of St Mary’s Girls Higher Secondary School, Coonoor, told BusinessLine .
“To fulfil the request of this school, we will soon install one more incinerator here,” Governor of Lions District P Arumugam Mani said after dedicating the incinerator. “We will soon be installing napkin supplying machine and incinerator in two more schools, Shanthi Vijaya and St Ann’s. These three packages entail a total outlay of ₹1.80 lakh. Another incinerator at St Mary’s will be an extra,” Sunil Goyal, President of Lions Club of Nilgiris, said. “We will bear entire cost of setting up the machines and maintenance,” Club secretary Jatin Vakharia said.
