The Karnataka Government has implemented the scheme to transfer diesel subsidy to the bank accounts of fishing boat owners. It has come into effect from April 1.

Seeks bank details

A press release by Harsh Gupta, Secretary to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, said instead of supplying diesel at subsidised rates to registered boats of fishermen, the diesel will be supplied at regular market rates. The amount, equivalent to subsidy on diesel, will be transferred directly to the account of eligible fishermen.

The bank accounts of fishermen are being collected. It is planned to transfer subsidy to their accounts within one week for the current month. The release asked the fishermen to ensure that they provide their bank accounts to their respective Deputy Directors of Fisheries in a week’s time.

Mentioning that a similar system of direct benefit of transfer for diesel is in place in some other States, it requested the fishermen to cooperate for implementation in Karnataka as well by providing required information.

The release said the Karnataka government has made a Budget provision of ₹105 crore for the implementation of direct benefit transfer to fishing boat owners for 2015-16.

Payment in advance

It said the subsidy will be transferred in advance to the account of fishermen based on details of diesel purchased by them in previous month. An amount of ₹10.6 crore has already been released on April 1 for April, it added.
