Karnataka Minister for Energy D K Shivakumar had a breakfast meeting with Members of Parliament at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi.
The Minister discussed with MPs the burning issues pertaining to sericulture and silk industry in the country with a focus on Karnataka.
At the meeting, a decision was taken to urge the central government to enhance import duty on silk and silk products to protect domestic industry.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister G M Siddeshwara, Members of Parliament from Karnataka B S Yeddyurappa (Shimoga), K H Muniyappa (Kolar), Pralhad Joshi (Dharawad), M Veerappa Moily (Chikaballapur), D K Suresh (Bengaluru Rural), R Dhruvanarayana (Chamarajanagara), Prathap Simha (Mysore-Kodagu), Suresh Angadi (Belagavi), Prabhakara Kore (Rajya Sabha), K Rahman Khan (Rajya Sabha), B K Hariprasadh, Prof Rajeev Gowda (Rajya Sabha).
