The Narendra Modi government will neither scrap the reservation policy nor allow anyone else to do so, reiterated BJP president Amit Shah on Friday.

He was addressing a mega rally of party workers at the BKC grounds in suburban Mumbai on the occasion of the 38th Foundation Day of the party.

His statement has come amidst allegations by the Opposition that the BJP was diluting its pro-Dalit stand and showing its true communal colours. The government have been facingd a lot of flak over its handling of the recent SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act case in the Supreme Court.

Lampooning the Opposition parties, which are in the process of forming a broad front for the next year’s parliamentary election, the party president said that whenever there is a massive flood, all snakes, mongooses, cats, dogs and even cheetahs and lions climb up a huge tree as they fear rising water levels. He said the efforts of the Opposition parties to bury their differences to form a third front for the 2019 polls were their last attempt to remain afloat.

He said that out of fear of the Modi wave, parties with different ideologies are coming together to contest elections.

Citing electoral wins in the North-East, Shah said Modi’s popularity has not diminished. People of the country have seen the work done by the NDA government.

Exuding confidence, he said the people will once again show faith in Modi and vote the BJP to power in 2019. He accused the Opposition of not allowing the Budget session of the Parliament to function in an orderly manner. Shah told the workers that the BJP’s golden era will begin when it forms the government in Odisha and West Bengal and returns to power in Delhi next year.

Attacking Congress president Rahul Gandhi for demanding the details of the work done by the NDA government, he said the “nation is demanding the accounts of four generations from you.”

Later, addressing media persons, Shah said over 68 per cent of the country’s land mass is today under BJP’s rule. In 2019, the party, under Modi’s leadership, will come back to power, with even greater majority and seats.

Clarifying his comments about the Opposition as snakes and mongooses, he said parties such as SP, BSP, Congress and Trinamool Congress, never come together. But this time, fearing Modi, they have joined hands.

Replying to a question about relations with its ally Shiv Sena, Shah said, Sena is an ally of the BJP in Centre and in Maharashtra. “It is our strong desire that Sena must remain with us as an ally.”

PM praises party workers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday credited party workers for taking the organisation to new heights. The BJP is the party of “a new India” and his party “believes in India’s diversity, its unique culture and the strengths of 125 crore Indians”, he said.

“For @BJP4India, the Karyakartas are everything. They are the heart and soul of the party, whose sweat has taken the Party to new heights. It is due to their efforts that we have the honour to serve people all over India and fulfil their aspirations. #IndiaTrustsBJP.

“I bow (to) all @BJP4India Karyakartas on the special occasion of the Party’s Sthapana Diwas,” Modi said in a series of tweets.
