The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a chargesheet in a court in Punjab against Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar for his alleged role in the Pathankot airbase attack that took place in January 2.

Azhar is believed to have masterminded the attacks while his brother Abdul Rauf Asghar, another accomplice, is believed to have planned the execution of the terror attacks in which eight were killed and 20 injured.

"The NIA has today (Monday) filed charge sheet in the Pathankot attack case against four accused persons -- Maulana Masood Azhar, Chief of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar, Deputy Chief of JeM and brother of Azhar, Shahid Latif, launching commander and Kashif Jan, main handler of Pathankot attackers," the National Investigation Agency said in an official statement here.

Both have been named in the chargesheet along with Shahid Latif and Kashif Jan, who were reportedly the handlers.

In the chargesheet, which has been filed in a Panchkula Special Court, the NIA has mentioned the DNA samples collected by it post the attacks from the four terrorists who were gunned down during the operations.

The four terrorists who executed the plan and were finally killed are Nasir Hussain, Hafiz Abu Bakar, Umar Farooq and Abdul Qayum. They have also been named in the chargesheet.

The NIA also claims that it has obtained forensic evidence that indicates Pakistan’s role in the attacks. In fact, Pakistan had sent a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) earlier this year to interrogate.
