Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today said that the first pump of Pattiseema lift irrigation project that seeks to divert Godavari flood water to Krishna is expected to be operational by mid-September protecting the interests of two regions

He reiterated the State’s commitment to complete various irrigation projects including the Polavaram project by 2018-19.

During the debate on irrigation projects in the State Assembly today, Naidu said a number of projects are at various stages of implementation, including the Pattiseema project.

The Government had taken up the Pattiseemsa project on a fast-track mode and has dedicated the project to the nation on August 15. The lift irrigation project would not only help East and West Godavari districts, but would ease pressure on Krishna River and enable release of adequate water to Rayalaseema region, he said

Responding to the objections raised by the Opposition YSR Party on Pattiseema, he wanted the party to make its stand clear whether they were in favour of the project or against it. Naidu said the Pattiseema project was taken up to use the surplus flood water going draining into the sea and is being implemented to help farmers.

Irrigation Minister Uma Maheswara Rao said while the interlinking of rivers as per the Godavari Tribunal contemplates diversion of 80 TMC into Krishna through right main canal of Polavaram project, the Pattiseema lift irrigation project was aimed at supplying water during Godavari floods.

Earlier in the day, State Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu mentioned that the AP Re-organisation Act was passed in haste and that there were a number of lacunae in the Act. Therefore, the State would take up the issue with the Centre and seek amendments, to protect its interests.
