In its efforts to promote LED technology, Andhra Pradesh has set a record of crossing the 1-crore mark in distribution of bulbs in under a year.

The LED (light emitting diode) technology is expected to reduce power bills, green house gases and to protect the environment. The Union Ministries of Power and New & Renewable Energy have been encouraging its use for the past few years.

Minister’s tweet The Minister of State for Coal, Power and MNRE, Piyush Goyal tweeted: “Congrats to the people of AP as it becomes the first State to cross one crore LED bulbs distribution under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP)”.

AP stands first with the record, even as the distribution in the entire country under the programme has reached a total of 3.15 crore, said Ajay Jain, Secretary Energy, State Energy Conservation Mission.

Enthused with the results in energy conservation, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has further set targets for the concerned departments to make Telangana the best energy-efficient State in the country, Ajay Jain said in a press release. The DELP programme is presently underway in Krishna, Vizianagaram, Vishakhapatnam, East Godavari, Prakasam & Chittoor districts and on an average 1.5 lakh bulbs are being distributed daily.
