Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Babul Supriyo, had wanted to step down not just from the Cabinet but also quit politics. Supriyo, however, was convinced by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to stay on.

In a series of tweets, the Union minister has chronicled his intentions to quit politics and his meeting with PM who convinced him to stay on. And, how, he will continue to fight all the allegations levelled against him.

“You may be surprised to know that after 2 dirty incidents in Asansol/ Bengal I had met our PM resigning as a Minister to quit Politics & Power for good only to be inspired back by our Hon’ble PM, a man who works 24/7/365 days for his country” he mentioned on his micro blogging site. “Don’t Quit-Fight” was what the PM had told Supriyo, he claimed. “I confess that, when 70 per cent of ME wants to abandon politics, I think about those enlightening words of encouragement from a Man who leads by example, works relentlessly for his countrymen ignoring all this Noise of Deceit&false propaganda by a Mindless/directionless Opposition,” Supriyo further wrote.

Supriyo, however, has expressed hope in fighting the muck and “politics of hate” with “development for all”.  “If today I am fighting all this Muck of Falsehood & Politics of Hate in WB, it is thanks 2 our Hon’ble PM who told me how we MUST triumph against all this Dirty Noise by continuing 2 fight with a goal in sight that of Development for ALL, something he DID in Gujarat,” he further tweeted.

In a tweet to BusinessLine , Supriyo has clarified his stand and pointed out that his intention to quit was not based on the recent incidents of violence in Assansol, but previous ones. “Hello hello Everyone\uD83D\uDE00This was long back, NOT AFTER THIS RECENT INCIDENT on Asansol•I am not the one to flee, neither am I a quitter but yes, I did go thru my own turmoil when getting introduced 2 the dirt of WB Politics & how singer Babul’s audience was getting divided,” he claimed.

The Minister has been in the eye of a storm after riots broke out in Assansol following Ram Navami celebrations. Supriyo, however, has expressed hope in fighting the muck and “politics of hate” with “development for all”.
