The Rotary Club of Madras will host the 12th edition of its annual Merchants and Bankers Golf Tournament, presented by Omega Healthcare and the BusinessLine, on January 11 at Tamil Nadu Golf Federation (TNGF) Cosmo Golf Course. The event will see around 120 golfers from corporate and banking sectors, apart from professionals in the fields of medicine, law, architecture and education.

Participants are also expected from government service, armed forces and the consular corps. The funds raised from the event will be used towards the club’s ongoing projects, which include new school buildings and education scholarship programmes, new building for women empowerment centre at Sembakkam, vocational training programmes at Selaiyur, Sembakkam and Gummidipoondi, and water and sanitation projects.

Inaugurated in 1929, the Madras Rotary Club is the third-oldest Rotary Club after Calcutta and Bombay. The club has undertaken large-scale projects, engaging Rotarians in community development, education, vocational training, women empowerment, water and sanitation, along with advocating to make the planet greener.

For the past 12 years, the club has used golf tournaments to raise funds for its various projects. The tournament has acquired the Merchants and Bankers tag.

The club seeks to emulate efforts of its brethren worldwide in raising substantial sums of money to plough back into society.

Omega Healthcare, which was the sponsor for the previous three editions, is coming on board for the fourth consecutive year.

Golfers Jeev Milkha Singh and Arjun Atwal also have lent their support to the event along with Shubhankar Sharma, Ajeetesh Sandhu and Khalin Joshi, the 2018 PGTI Order of Merit champion.

Other partners include Brakes India, Can stop, SCIO Health Analytics, Saggezza India, Global Waste Recyclers, Peruvamba Estates, Suryoday Small Finance Bank, Access Healthcare, Stanley Lifestyle and Samsonite.
