‘Lead the Road’, a Transporters Meet organised by BusinessLine to highlight various issues related to transporters, is now headed to the Kutch region of Gujarat.

The event will be held on Tuesday at Gandhidham, a major commercial hub close to Kandla and Mundra ports. The eighth edition will see various stakeholders involved in the transport sector coming together to discuss issues and suggest solutions to the problems faced by them.

The event is presented by Indian Oil Corporation and powered by YES Bank with NewsX as the television partner.

Considering the fluctuating fuel prices, lower freight rates and limited availability of drivers, the event assumes significance and provides a platform to discuss these issues. Nearly one crore trucks criss-cross the country carrying goods. Any disruption in their operations can cripple the economy.

With a strong port-based economy, thousands of trucks ply in and around of Gandhidham carrying cargo to and from both the ports that are very critical to livelihood in the prosperous Kutch region.

Panel discussion

Presentations apart, the event in Gandhidham will see a panel discussion on the ‘Road Ahead’ for the transport sector.

The panelists are: Mukesh Mehta, President, Tanker Owners and Operators Association, Gandhidham; Jayesh Rajde, President, Kandla-Mundra Container Transport Welfare Association; Jayaram Mahalla, Chief Manager (Retail Sales) Rajkot Divisional office, Indian Oil Corporation, and Anil Menon, National Business Head, Commercial Vehicle Loans, YES Bank.

The discussions will cover various issues that trouble the sector and also the share best practices and solutions to overcome them.

The first in the series of 10 Transporters Meets was held in June at Namakkal, the hub of the trucking industry in Tamil Nadu, followed by the second at the port city of Kochi in July. The third was held at Vijayawada in August. The fourth and fifth editions were held in September at Hyderabad and Pune, respectively. The sixth edition was held at Jaipur in October, followed by Jamshedpur in November.
