A golf course with a link to the Ocean? Yes, amateur golfers, clients and others can now tee off at the new facility in Krishnapatnam Port, the country’s largest all-weather, deep water port on the East coast of India.
The Krishnapatnam Port's golf course in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, is touted as the "first of its kind" world class 18-hole integrated golf course. The CVR Links Golf Course has been planned, designed and executed by David Hemstock, who also created the Amby Valley Golf Course near Mumbai.
Well-known golfer Sharmila Nicollet did a promotional for the unique Port-based facility. With an international flavour and golf lovers across the globe expected to come, it is hoped that the venue will push tourism and other related economic activities.
Through CVR Links, Krishnapatnam port aims to create an opportunity to expand the number of investors for the economic development of the region alongside creating a social infrastructure platform of international standards and make the Port the true gateway for India, C Sashidhar, MD, said.
The port, with a transit storage area of 6,800 acres, has the country’s largest waterfront area of 161 sq km and a depth of 20.5 m. Its current draft of 18.5 m can accommodate full-sized cape vessel of 200,000-tonne capacity.
