Sony warns of battery fire risk in Vaio computers

Sony Corp urged consumers to stop using some models of its Vaio Fit 11A personal computer because of a risk that the battery might overheat and catch fire.

Sony Corp on Friday urged consumers to stop using some models of its Vaio Fit 11A personal computer launched in February because of a risk that the battery might overheat and catch fire.

The Japanese electronics giant said three computers had caught fire in Hong Kong, China and Japan.

Sony stopped short of a recall but urged people to stop using the computers while it checks serial numbers.
