The auction house Sotheby’s will work with the online shopping website eBay to develop an internet platform for eBay users to browse and acquire Sotheby’s artwork, the auctioneer announced on Monday.
eBay will launch a newly designed site, tailored for collectors of rare and unique art and collectibles.
The collaboration will start by offering live auctions taking place at Sotheby’s New York headquarters.
“The growth of the art market, new generation technology and our shared strengths make this the right time for this exciting new online opportunity,” Sotheby’s head Bruno Vinciguerra said.
“We are joining with eBay to make our sales more accessible to the broadest possible audience around the world.”
