Hands up for #HIVprevention is a campaign leading up to World Aids Day (December 1). The world has committed to ending the epidemic by 2030. A new UNAIDS report shows that countries are getting on the fasttrack, and by June 2016, around 18.2 million people had access to life-saving medicines, including 910,000 children, double the number five years ago. If these efforts are stepped up, the world will be on track to achieving the target of 30 million people on treatment by 2020. Warning of drug resistance and the need to reduce the cost of second- and third-line treatments, the report calls for greater investment in research on therapies and interventions.
