The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Abhiyan, popular in the country as Ayushman Bharat, is scheduled for its official roll-out on September 25. The ambitious health financing scheme that has gone through many iterations is designed to provide ₹5-lakh insurance to 10 crore families, and will be rolled out along with cooperation from the States. The build-up has been marked by meetings involving insurance representatives, doctors, and hospital officials who will all be needed to keep the machinery well-oiled. Universal healthcare is a critical campaign for Governments across the world. Ayushman Bharat looks to cover families in the weaker economic groups, and if it takes off, will become fodder in the run-up to Election 2019.
