Portable MRI

The Tata Trusts’ Foundation for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (FISE) has announced the development of a high-tech portable Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner. A team of engineers at Voxelgrids, an incubatee of FISE, achieved this innovation in 24 months, a note said. This 1.5 Tesla whole body MRI scanner will make MRI scans 3-4 times faster, compared to other scanners in the market.

The US Food and Drug Administration has filed a complaint against Innovative BioDefense of Lake Forest (California) and Colette Cozean, the company’s president and chief executive officer, to prohibit them from selling Zylast topical antiseptics with claims that they are effective against infection by pathogens such as norovirus, rotavirus, flu virus, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), and Ebola.

People with diabetes are advised to stop using and return specific lots of Accu-Chek Aviva and Accu-Chek Performa test strips following a recent recall by the manufacturer, the United Kingdom's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has said. Accu-Chek Inform II test strips have also been recalled but are supplied in the UK by Roche for professional use only. The test strips may give increased strip error messages prior to dosing with blood and in some cases may give falsely high or low readings which may be hard to detect, the MHRA said.
