This year's World Food Week starting October 15th takes place in a global context where conflict, climate extremes and an increase in obesity are reversing progress made in the fight against hunger and malnutrition. A series of events including World Food Day on October 16th will explore the actions needed to put achieving Zero Hunger back on track. World Food Day marks the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations in 1945.
This year, FAO Goodwill Ambassadors for Nutrition, the King of Lesotho and Queen Letizia of Spain will be joined by other key players in the effort to achieve Zero Hunger at a ceremony on WFD held at FAO’s headquarters in Rome. Events will be held in over 130 countries across the world, making it one of the most celebrated days of the UN calendar.
