In the past decade, the world has seen an explosion in amateur video content production, thanks to the smartphone boom. From vloggers to dilettante documentary makers to TikTok video producers, millions of people are creating videos every moment, often introducing striking innovations in the way they move the camera, compose shots, and more. But a major challenge has been the limited mobility of the cellphone camera which, even when using a selfie stick, cannot be manoeuvered beyond certain levels. The arrival of smartphone gimbals has changed that scenario as well. The 3 Axis Smartphone Gimbal Stabiliser from Digitek, an Indian provider of smartphone accessories, among others, is the latest addition to affordable gimbals that allow users to do more with their smartphone shooters.
One needs a lot of patience to set up the device properly and mount your phone on it. And this takes practise to perfect. But once you’ve set up the device and mounted the camera according to the measures and norms, you’re up for some surprising results. The device helps you move your shooter flawlessly in myriad directions and capture images (there is a dedicated button to click stills) and video that can match professional films in camera movement. The device is flexible and convenient. It has an in-use charging functionality, which helps you charge the smartphone while on shoot.
Users can download Digitek’s app from the playstore and sync it with the device and can control it using the interface. The cellphone and stabiliser are connected via Bluetooth. A status indicator tells you about battery use, while the joystick helps you control the device’s movements. You can pan, tilt, follow, zoom, track, turn and do a lot more. The gimbal is compact though it feels a little bulky in hand and is extremely portable. You can easily operate it with one hand.
