Ultimate Ears, which is an arm of Logitech, produces earphones and speakers that have innovative design and features. The California-based company has introduced its Boom 3 portable speaker brand for India, calling it the ultimate ‘go-anywhere’ speaker.

The Boom 3 indeed has a strong body. It is handy, not slippery, and has the right size for a compact party speaker.

The Boom 3 is extremely portable, super easy to carry around in one hand (party animals, take note) and it can fit nicely in your trouser pockets or a small handbag. The device is extremely water and dust resistant. Ultimate Ears claims that it can easily stay inside water for almost 30 minutess (in fact, the company says the device will float on water). That’s quite impressive. The Boom 3 is clearly durable.

It can withstand even strong falls and hits. The controls on the Boom 3 are nicely laid out. Top front features the ‘Magic Button’, which allows the user to ‘play, pause, skip and control’ any streaming music with ‘one touch’.

At the outset, this may sound a tad confusing, but you’ll master the operation real quick. The volume buttons are very big and are found on the stem itself.

Audio quality

Considering the price, the Boom3 is a value-for-money deal. The audio is clear at all levels. The Boom 3’s sound is loud, immersive, sharp and surround. The so-called 360-degree sound with deep and accurate bass is well-balanced.

We tried multiple sources and audio in multiple formats (FLAC, MP3 of multiple grades, MP4) and the experience was quite satisfactory. The device expresses impressive honesty in rendering audio.

It even enhances the experience fairly intelligently. Clearly, this is a party Bluetooth speaker. The audio fine-tunes itself to the environment and delivers good results thanks to the cylindrical design and the audio software.

The Boom 3’s battery is superb. It lasts one full day (the company claims 15 hours) in one charge and can be recharged faster. Ultimate Ears sells a ‘Power Up’ charging dock separately to the Boom 3 wirelessly; this can be handy for party animals. The device can be controlled via the Ultimate Ears app, which will help the user access features such as Block Party (where multiple people can play DJ), PartyUp, remote on/off, customisable equaliers, set musical alarm, tap controls, etc.

The device does not offer FM radio or SD card playback or direct streaming. The app offers sync with Apple Music, but for a charge.

In sum, the Ultimate Ears Boom 3 is a good-looking, strong and durable party speaker that can double up as a personal audio device.
