NMDC Ltd has announced that three of its mines have received five star rating from the Indian Bureau of Mines for their sustainable development practices.
These mines include two mechanised iron ore mines -- Bailadila iron ore mine, Bacheli complex, Chhattisgarh and Donimalai Iron Ore Mine in Karnataka -- and one diamond mining project in Majhgawan, Panna in Madhya Pradesh.
The five star certificates were given by Piyush Goyal, Power, Coal and Mines Minister, and Balvinder Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Mines in New Delhi recently, it informed BSE in a statement.
The ratings were awarded to the mines for the efforts and initiatives taken for implementation of the Sustainable Development Framework.
The evaluation of the mines was based on the implementation of the sustainable development framework on parameters such as management of impact by carrying out scientific and efficient mining, addressing social impacts of resettlement, rehabilitation requirements for mining activities, local community engagements and welfare programmes and steps taken for progressive and final mine closure.
The iron ore mining major has been implementing sustainable mining practices and adopting scientific mining, mineral conservation and beneficiation techniques over the years.
