With the new energy norms leading to an increase in prices of air-conditioners, Videocon has forayed in the window AC segment with an eye on growing its share in North India.

Sanjeev Bakshi, COO, said window ACs are popular in North India, and with the new energy norms kicking in, these are affordable compared with split ACs and are likely to attract new consumers.

Industry estimates suggest that window ACs are now nearly 20-30 per cent cheaper than split ACs. Window ACs contribute about 20 per cent to the market. However in regions, such as North India, the contribution of windows ACs is as high as 50 per cent.

The company is ramping up its presence in retail outlets and introducing new technology. Videocon on Friday introduced 32 new models across window and split ACs in the price range of ₹27,490-₹37,440.
