Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla feels telecom brand Idea has the potential to be a global one.
If Idea does go global, it would be the conglomerate first brand to do so. Birla, however, did not give a timeline for this.
Talking on the sidelines of the Make In India event here on Sunday, Birla said: “Making Indian brands global requires time, patience, and consistency in terms of product quality and delivery. We are yet to see a brand which is truly global. The next step is about learning new skills”
The diversified group recently entered the e-commerce segment with ABOF. In ABOF, again, which Birla sees the potential for a global brand.
“ABOF is much easier to globalise as it is electronic, and much easier to take off,” he observed.
Leadership strategy To create global brands, companies need to chart out innovative ways of building leadership, said Birla. For two years, the conglomerate has been working on its ‘two-by-two’ strategy, wherein a leader handles two different businesses in two different regions. At a panel discussion with CNN’s Richard Quest, Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group, along with Birla, spoke about the need of digitisation in the manufacturing sector.
However, to achieve success in Make in India, the Centre needs to focus on infrastructural and environmental issues, they said.
