Chinese solar photovoltaic module producers are scouting for partners in India to use the local manufacturing capability to serve the global markets, according to Chairman of Titan Energy System, Rao S.Y.S. Chodagam.

With several countries seeking to levy anti-dumping duties on Chinese solar PV products, their efforts to seek Indian manufacturing partners is aimed at addressing the global requirements, he said.

Rao told Business Line that they have been approached by couple of Chinese companies offering to be partners and help mutually grow business. This is because, they are not able to sell their products globally due to curbs and see this as a mutually beneficial approach.

Earlier, speaking at a solar PV event held here today, he said that there has been an ongoing probe into the dumping related issues since November 2012. This was taken up as domestic manufacturers are faced with tough times unable to sell what they produce while import modules proliferate.

Referring to their business plans, he said they are in the process of negotiations to set up a 50-MW solar PV farm in the State as an EPC contractor and a supplier of modules. “Within next 2-3 months, we will be able to finalise plans,” he said.

On the AP Government move to offer Rs 6.49 per unit for solar PV farms under the State policy bids, he said this was not workable as companies are unlikely to come forward with this price tag.
