Wind energy sector company Gamesa has signed up with Independent Power Producer Greenko for 300 MW additional wind power capacity generation.

With a combined portfolio of 600 MW with Greenko, Gamesa has fortified its position in the wind turbine manufacturer space in India.

This order will see Gamesa use its specially designed low wind turbines, the G97-2.0 MW - T-104, with extended hub height capable of capturing more energy from the available low wind sites in India.

Out of the 300 MW agreement, the first phase of 160 MW is already underway and the project is expected to be commissioned by June 2015.

As per the agreement, during this period, Gamesa will supply, erect and commission 80 of the company’s G97-2.0 MW - T-104m wind turbines at Jaisalmer region in Rajasthan and Basavana Bagewadi in Karnataka.

The second phase of 140 MW is expected to be secured by April 2015 wherein Gamesa will supply 70 of its G97-2.0MW – T-104 turbines for sites in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. This project is expected to be commissioned by September 2015.

Ramesh Kymal, Chairman and Managing Director, Gamesa India in a statement said, “With the Government’s thrust in promoting India as a global manufacturing hub, it is imperative that renewables be considered as an alternate fuel to meet the power demand spurred by industrialisation.”

Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty, CEO and MD Greenko Group, said, “In our persuasion towards a sustainable low cost energy generation, we find Gamesa with its G97 -2.0 MW, a good partner for adding capacities to our utility scale wind farm under implementation. The partnership with Gamesa will enhance our shareholder value and accelerates near term business plan”.

Gamesa has signed a total of 600 MW with Greenko till date and this agreement cements the partnership between the two companies.

Of the earlier contract covering 300 MW, Greenko has 160 MW of operation wind capacity in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, and another 140 MW is under various stages of development.
