Hong Kong-based Crown Worldwide Group, a $766 million global logistics and related services company has opened its records management centre in the city outskirts at Guduvancherry.

Secured facility Jim Thompson, Chairman, Crown Worldwide, who inaugurated the facility, said that the company has spent nearly $12 million to create a ‘highly secured’ warehouse that can store nearly 1.2 million cartons in the first phase.

Clients from sectors like financial services, healthcare, legal, manufacturing and pharmaceutical can store their documents with Crown. A document can be original agreements related to a house while an individual is seeking loan with a bank. The documents will be kept in bar-coded cartons for a monthly fee as long as the client requires, he said.

Crown has been operational in India for the last 19 years in cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad. It has invested over $70 million in India so far, he said.

Installed capacity Spread over five acres the facility has a capacity to store 2.2 million cartons when fully operational. To be developed in phases, the first phase is up and ready and the second phase expected to be operational by 2016-17, says a company press release.

India is one of the most important markets for Crown globally. While the average business growth for Crown in other countries is around 8 per cent, it is nearly three times in India, he said.

Crown Worldwide operates from over more than 265 locations in 60 countries. It provides a range of services to governments, multi-national corporations, museums, galleries and private customers.
