NMDC Limited today said that the naxalite attack on Bacheli Iron Ore Mining Complex (BIOM) in Chhattisgarh last night will not affect its production.
In a statement issued early today, NMDC said the mining unit was attacked by naxalites late last night where they detonated a blast that set the downhill conveyor system on fire at two places.
CISF personnel rushed to the site and in the presence of NMDC officials and employees doused the fire.
There has been no loss of life or injury to any workers and production has been suspended pending restoration of the damaged conveyor and assessment of the damage and equipment is underway.
NMDC expects to fully restore the conveyor system in the next 10-12 days and stabilise production.
About 12,000 tonnes of iron ore was being mined daily from deposits 10 and 11 A.
As a result of the accident, mining would stop for a few days at these mines, according to PK Sripathy, Director of Production, NMDC.
The shortfall could be made up subsequently, he said.
In spite of the incident, the daily despatch of iron ore will also not be affected due to adequate stock of BIOM and iron ore fines at Bacheli.
