Public sector banks have reported 20 per cent jump in the outstanding loans by nearly 9,000 wilful defaulters who collectively owed to lenders more than ₹92,000 crore at the end of March this year.
The outstanding loans by wilful defaulters rose to ₹92,376 crore at the end of financial year 2016-17, as against ₹76,685 crore at the end of March 2016, registering a jump of 20.4 per cent.
At the same time, there has been close to 10 per cent increase in number of wilful defaulters on annual basis. The number of wilful defaulters increased to 8,915 at the end of March as against 8,167 in the previous fiscal, according to data collated by the Finance Ministry.
