As Turbo Megha Airways sets out to launch its Trujet flights to connect tier-II cities in the South, the company is planning its next moves which include acquisition of more aircraft and setting up a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility entailing an investment outlay of Rs 500 crore.

The maiden flight of the low-cost carrier is slated to take off at 8 am on July 12 from Hyderabad to Tirupati and thereafter connect to Rajahmundry and Chennai from Hyderabad. The initial connectivity is aimed at catering to Godavari Pushkaram visitors and will later add other destinations.

Addressing a press conference here today, filmstar Konidala Ram Charan Tej, Promoter, Director and brand ambassador of Trujet, said the idea mooted by his partners, Vankayalapati Umesh, Managing Director, and Prem Kumar, Director, has become a reality in two years since the initial plan to launch the airliner.

“Though we could be considered a low-cost carrier, we would not compromise on the quality of service. In fact, we would provide free food service on board and pick-up and drop from select destinations in the cities we serve,” Ram Charan said.

Umesh said the airliner plans to gradually add new destinations as it seeks to add five more aircraft within 18 months from the launch of the maiden flight. “We believe tier-II cities provide us the opportunity as full-service providers mostly focus on metros,” he said.

“We have plans to add seven more destinations later this month. These locations include Hubli, Mangaluru, Chennai, Tuticorin, Coimbatore, Pune and Goa,” Prem Kumar said.

The airline announced that it would offer a 10 per cent discount to senior citizens above 65, students below 18 years, members of the South India Artistes’ Association and those from the film fraternity.
