UK-based Nectar Group has entered India through a joint venture with Portman India Pvt Ltd, a Chennai-based specialist in development and operations of ports and terminals.
Portman Nector will be a 50:50 joint venture providing port promoters with professional services in design, development and operations of ports and terminals in India, said Capt. Suresh N. Amirapu, a Director at Portman.
Han Ozturk, Director, Nectar, said the company had earlier done a couple of projects, including bulk handling at Kandla port. However, through the joint venture it hopes to tap India’s huge business opportunity. Quoting the Shipping Ministry’s Maritime Agenda, Portman’s Joint Managing Director Ishwar Achanta said the throughput of all commodities in India is expected to grow to 2.49 billion tonnes a year by 2020 from 1 billion tonne now. This calls for a significant increase in port capacities.
