Pulapre Balakrishnan, Professor, Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram, has been chosen for the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for Distinguished Contribution to Development Studies for 2014. The award given by the Malcolm and Elizabeth Adiseshiah Trust consists of a citation and a cash prize of ₹2 lakh.

The awardee will also be eligible for a further grant to be used within three years for a research programme approved by the Trust and deliver the Malcolm Adiseshiah Memorial Lecture of the year during the award presentation function.

Balakrishnan said in a statement, the award is an honour and “I view this award as a recognition of the role of evidence-based research in economics not only in making sense of our social world but also in our efforts to improve it.”
