The Government has decided to resume the winter session of Parliament in the first week of February.

The session is likely to take up six pending legislations for strengthening the anti-corruption framework and the Bill to create Telangana State, dividing Andhra Pradesh.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs that the winter session will resume from February 5 to 21. The vote-on-account is likely to be passed on February 17.

The session will be the last session to be convened by the present United Progressive Alliance Government.

The dates for next general elections are likely to be announced in the last week of February.

Anti-corruption laws

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had demanded that the winters session should be resumed for the passage of anti-corruption legislations such as the Whistleblowers’ Protection Bill. The Government is likely to push the passage of these crucial bills during the session.

The President had not prorogued both the Houses in an apparent indication that the Government may reconvene the session after a brief time.
