A high level committee presided over by the Chief Secretary Jose Cyriac has granted sanction for the land acquisition for the widening of Vyttila-Petta road and for shifting railway quarters from Ernakulum south Railway station for the Metro station in South.

Vyttila – Petta road will be widened to 26 metres and a total of 9.35 hectares will be acquired for this purpose.

The permission was given quickly as the improvement of this road is necessary for the construction of Kochi Metro. The widening of the road will be done according to the alignment of the Metro Rail project.

In South, the railway quarters land is being acquired to build the metro station there. KMRL management has discussed the issue with the railway authorities and sought the permission some time back and Railway authorities have agreed to it in principle.

Now, the State Government has given the sanction to take over 3.14 acres in South Railway Station area to rebuild the quarters.
