On her maiden visit to India, Oracle’s new CEO Safra Catz seemed extremely bullish on India as she hinted at a rapid expansion in the country.

Catz said India is an important market for India not just because 40,000 of its 1.3 lakh employees are based in India but also because she sees India as the next big opportunity.

“The idea of bringing even more of Indian population into modern technology enablement, where they can make choices and deal with the government and deal with each other, I think no where else the opportunity has been as large with a billion people. Who can match that?...No one else – just India,” she said while speaking at the Nasscom India Leadership Forum in Mumbai. She also added that the company is looking at expanding in India, without getting into further details. “India is a phenomenal market, especially for folks like us. For us it is a fantastic market. The technical knowledge in this country is so deep, it is also truly very strong for us but it is also a source of intellectual talent.”

Highlighting the importance of Oracle’s contribution to India, she said, “I think why Digital India makes so much sense for us is because we live Make in India. When you have 40k people in India, we are making in India for the world.”
