Optiemus Infracom, an Indian telecom company, on Tuesday released BlackBerry KEYone Limited Edition Black at at event in the capital. The device is to be available at a price of ₹39,990.
The smartphone continues the BlackBerry keyboard tradition but combines it with an Android device.
Optiemus has designed the phone specially for India via its Make in India initiative to manufacture BlackBerry-branded devices in the country starting September 2017. KEYone will be the first BlackBerry-branded device manufactured by Optiemus under the licensing agreement signed in February. The phone has several India-specific features and specs such as dual-SIM, and is styled differently from the global version.
The phone will be available from August 8, exclusively on Amazon India.
“The Limited Edition has been named so not because it is to be available in limited quantity, but because it’s limited to India,” said Hardip Singh, Executive Director, Optiemus.
