Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi plans to add more assembly lines with its contract manufacturer Foxconn to increase local manufacturing of smartphones, according to Manu Jain, Head, Xiaomi India.
Xiaomi was one of the first global mobile phone manufacturers to initiate a ‘Make in India’ programme, he told newspersons on the launch of a new range of mobile phones.
For the past four quarters, the company had sold over one million smartphones every quarter with nearly 75 per cent of them manufactured at Foxconn’s facility at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh, he said. With a huge demand for its smartphones, the company plans to have two more plants in India, Jain said without giving any details.
Xiaomi recently set up its second call centre at Bengaluru with a capacity to seat around 250 people.
Jain was here to launch new smartphone models Redmi 3S, priced at ₹6,999, to be available from Wednesday on Flipkart and Mi.Com. Redmi 3S Prime, priced at ₹8,999, was launched on August 9, says a press release.
