The price of the hybrid finger variety increased on the back of improved demand in Erode markets on Wednesday.

“The medium variety hybrid turmeric arrived for sale. Some traders who have some orders for the hybrid variety turmeric procured all the 120 bags . They also purchased all the 25 bags of hybrid root turmeric tofulfil their local demand,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

Traders have received negligible orders from North India and are still waiting for bulk upcountry orders. Many farmers are keeping superfine quality turmeric with them, waiting for a good price.

On Wednesday, 2,800 bags arrived for sale, of which fifty per cent was sold. The hybrid finger variety gained ₹150 a quintal, while the hybrid root turmeric by ₹200.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹4,199-6,191 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,099-5,789.

Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,459-6,659 and the root variety ₹5,131-6,161. Of the 802 bags that arrived, 316 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,464-6,576; the root variety ₹5,169-5,861. Of the 430 bags on offer, 329 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,199-6,299 and the root variety ₹4,849-6,062. All the 418 bags found takers.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,166-6,342; the root variety ₹4,748-5,962. Of the 158 bags on sale, 149 were sold.
