Spot turmeric prices increased on Friday. “Due to arrival of quality turmeric, the buyers quoted increased price, purchased some quantity. The exporters purchased the hybrid variety and also some other quality turmeric and dispatched them.

“Further, despite of arrival of low quantity, sales were only 50 per cent”, said R.K.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association. The new crop, mainly the Number 8 variety will arrive for sale within ten days as harvest was had been conducted in some places.

The turmeric grower farmers have brought 3,200 bags and 50 per cent stocks were sold.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger variety sold at Rs 4,196-5,611 a quintal, the root variety Rs 3,796-5,205.

Salem hybrid crop: The finger variety sold at Rs 4,891-6,569, the root variety Rs 4,796-5,390. Of1,282 bags, 25 per cent stocks were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger variety sold at Rs 4,499-5,564, the root variety Rs 4,399-5,299. Of 786 bags, 714 were sold.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety sold at Rs 4,089-5,799, the root variety Rs 3,899-5,299. Of766 bags, 727 were sold.

At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger variety sold at Rs 4,510-5,811, the root variety Rs 3,600-5,251. All the 432 bags were sold.
